You Might Be a Great Multitasker
A three-minute test, with a pen and a piece of paper.
Plenty of people say they're excellent multitaskers. Some of them are right.
It still takes longer.
Sometimes you don't get a choice. A baby on your hip while you make a sandwich is multitasking. The sandwich takes longer, and the baby isn't optional.
The rest of the time, there's a choice. Finish the thing, or finish the piece of it you set out to finish, then go to the next one.
Every interruption costs something. This takes three minutes and shows you how much.
You need a pen and paper for this exercise.
The whole thing takes about three minutes.
Do it now, rather than reading ahead.
This only works if you do not read ahead. There is more to this exercise than what is on the screen, and skipping ahead will ruin the result.
